Press Release Regarding shelter facilities at AIIMS

Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), Govt. of NCT of Delhi being the Nodal Agency for providing shelter facilities for the homeless people of Delhi. DUSIB has established and operating 132 Night Shelters with all necessary infrastructure facilities located across Delhi.

The Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, on 9th January, 2012 desired that shelter facilities be provided to the relatives of indoor patients and other patients currently living in the pavements of the AIIMS. In compliance to the orders of the Apex Court, AIIMS Administration is providing accommodation facilities to the patients and their attendants (412 beds) in three Dharamshalas namely Rajgarhia Vishram Sadan, Satya Sai Vishram Sadan & Surekha Vishram Sadan. Further, AIIMS is scheduled to construct a large waiting shed of 250 sq. mt. with all basic amenities and is expected to be functional within the next three months.

AIIMS has also provided a built up area of 6,000 sq.ft., to be used as a Shelter on temporary basis. This hall will accommodate about 250 needy people/attendants/patients on waiting and protect them from the harsh winter. This shelter home (temporary) will be functional by this Evening i.e. 13 of January, 2012. The NGO – Society for the Promotion of Youth & Masses will look after the operation and management of this shelter.
